Don't be dictated by Malayan parties

KOTA KINABALU, April 18, 2013: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee has accused Pakatan Rakyat (PR) of sabotaging its chances of winning by fielding candidates in constituencies which SAPP is contesting, although PR has little or no influence in these constituencies.

He cited for example, PR is fielding their candidates in such constituencies like Sepanggar, Putatan and Inanam where SAPP candidates are contesting.
In Sepanggar parliament constituency, DAP is fielding Jeffrey Kumin who faces SAPP vice president Don Chin Hon Kiong, and in Putatan DAP is fielding Joseph Lee Han Kyun who faces SAPP Treasurer-general Dullie Marie, while in Inanam state constituency, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is fielding its Secretary for Sabah Dr Roland Chia who will clash with SAPP former MP for Sepangar Datuk Eric Majimbun.

“Pakatan Rakyat leaders like Lim Kit Siang had recently acknowledged that Pakatan can’t win in Sabah and yet they decided to contest in Sepanggar which is traditionally fought by SAPP and UMNO. The same with Putatan and Inanam. The motive is to split the Chinese votes there so as to make UMNO/BN win,” he said.

He contended that Dr Roland has no business to be in Inanam since his base is in Kepayan all these while.

“Originally, he (Dr Roland) wanted to contest in Kepayan but the seat was grabbed by DAP candidate Dr Edwin Bosi, desperate to become a candidate, he decided to settle for Inanam. We should reject such a candidate,” he said.

Speaking at SAPP ‘Kopitiam Ceramah’ held at the vicinity of Foh Sang shops on Wednesday night, after announcing its candidates’ line-up for the 13th general election in Kepayan earlier, Yong had no reservation in expressing his discontent over the ‘game plan’ of the Peninsular-based opposition coalition which he described as no different to that of the BN who were never in favour of granting political autonomy to Sabah.

He reiterated that like BN leaders, PR leaders too realized the far-reaching implication of losing political control over the natural-resources-rich Sabah, especially knowing full well of the challenging financial position that the country is in now, after many years of abuse and mismanagement of public funds.

Hence, PR leaders rather let BN win than to let local opposition parties like SAPP win in the general election.

To quash such a scheme, Yong vehemently proclaimed that “Sabahans are not donkeys or monkeys, but the ‘master keys’ of Sabah” who should have full control over their own affairs, instead of being dictated by politicians of Malayan parties.

Earlier, he also took a swipe at DAP for ‘losing’ some of its seats to PAS. They included the Merotai and Tanjung Aru state seats, and Batu Sapi parliamentary seat.

“How can we in Sabah expect DAP to represent us, both in the Parliament and the State Legislative Assembly, when they can’t even stand up to PAS?” he quipped.

Meanwhile, in her brief speech, SAPP wanita chief Melanie Chia pointed out that despite the hostile and mischievous treatment from PR, SAPP has kept its promise of backing PR to capture Putrajaya, by focusing in contesting the state seats, while leaving majority of the parliamentary seats to PR.

She cited for example, although SAPP is contesting the Tanjung Papat and Elopura state seats which it won previously, it nonetheless decided to leave the Sandakan parliamentary seat to PR/DAP to contest. Similarly in Kota Kinabalu, it decided not to contest the parliamentary seat except for the state seats of Luyang, Likas and Inanam.

“This clearly shows that SAPP is a party of principle and is trustworthy,” she said.

Of the 25 parliamentary constituencies, SAPP is only contesting for 8 of them, namely Kudat, Kota Marudu, Sepangar, Putatan, Kimanis, Sipitang, Tenom and Tawau.

Melanie who is defending her Luyang state seat also urged members of the public who have any doubts about SAPP and its struggles, to come forward to attend its ‘Kopi Tiam’ ceramah which will be held at the same venue every night, starting from 20 April – 4 May.

She stressed that this is important so that they could clear whatever doubts or misconceptions that they have on SAPP and its leaders, as the result of wild accusations and lies cast by its rivals.

  1. Pakatan Rakyat has Monday unveiled its long-awaited but disappointing manifesto, which is full of old news, is anti-growth, anti-jobs and contains a host of costly promises that come with few details and no price tag.

  2. The document is dripping with vote-buying populism at the expense of economic responsibility. It includes a rehash of old pledges to reduce car prices, scrap toll payments and provide free education – all ideas that were espoused last year and some of which also got a second airing in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's widely derided Budget 2013.

    ReplyDelete
  3. But although this is the third outing for some of these initiatives, Pakatan is still no closer to telling us how much they will cost. For example, the manifesto repeats the pledge to scrap PTPTN without telling us where the RM24 billion is going to come from.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It shamelessly steals the Government's minimum wage, promising it at RM1000 per month. This is rank hypocrisy, considering Pakatan Rakyat last year told us the measure was unaffordable and will cost jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It promises to raise the minimum household income to RM4,000 in its first term in power without specifying the very economic reforms needed to get to true high income status. A short-term number has triumphed over a detailed long-term plan once again.

  6. The RAPID petrochemical project on Johor that will service energy-hungry Singapore for decades to come and will make us a regional leader in energy processing and distribution is to be "reviewed", further undermining Malaysia's inward investment credentials should this document somehow help them get to power.

  7. Unveiling the manifesto, PKR Strategic Director Rafizi Ramli said: "We will remove monopolies." Presumably he means by inviting more competition into the Malaysian market, the very industries his government will frighten off by pulling the rug out from under existing projects like RAPID and Lynas. Do we want growth at 6.4 percent? This won't ever happen if this manifesto is implemented.

  8. It promises to scrap AES, which is without doubt the most life-threatening piece of populism Anwar and his irresponsible cohorts could have come up with. Again, there is no mention of compensation to the two operating companies. We sadly await the first death at an intersection that was once protected by an AES camera but was taken down by the new Pakatan administration.

  9. Rafizi said they will "disband 1Malaysia Development Bhd, which serves the agenda of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor." Perhaps he has not seen the popularity of the aid measures under the 1Malaysia banner, all of which are needs-based and none of which are race-based. To dismiss this successful programme (while in the same breath promising to wind back Bumiputra policies) as some sort of plaything of the Prime Minister's wife is pure pettiness. And we thought Pakatan Rakyat might seek to address serious issues with this document.

  10. There are copious soothing words about Sabah and Sarawak, which is unsurprising since Anwar sees the East Malaysia states as his golden ticket to Seri Perdana. But there are few material proposals except for the costly Pan Borneo Highway – to be built while tolls are scrapped. Again, it defies economic logic.

  11. Rafizi repeated his side's commitment to raising the state oil royalty from five to 20 percent without telling us which existing federal projects will suffer from the lost revenue or how that is consistent with lower fuel prices for all drivers.

  12. Pakatan promises to remove one million foreign workers from the country without telling us who and how. Will they go from house to house firing poor Indonesian maids? Pack your things, you're going home! Or will they expel the people with skills that are needed in a fast-growing economy? Either way, this populist measure plays on fears about foreigners taking our jobs. Most people who work here are here for a reason. Nothing is as simple as it is in Pakatan's world.

They might mean "1 million" from their country Malaya and not our country Sabah!

Best solution is to deport all illegals to Malaya as they created the problem.

However we should also blame ourselves for letting this happen!

  13. The Opposition breezily vows to "reform the education system" less than half a year after the Government unveiled the National Education Blueprint, which will continue to improve the education of our children until 2025. It seems they can't even steal a BN idea properly.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The manifesto doesn't include one budgetary figure about how much any single initiative will cost. It is economic fantasyland. It runs just four pages and looks very much like something that was cobbled together in a hurry. For example, it includes a one-line pledge to "increase police capabilities to solving crime". What on earth does that mean?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Another one-liner says "reform parliament". How? It also promises to "reform Islamic and religious institutions." Did PAS have an input on that one?

    ReplyDelete
  16. And what of this glib promise: "Justice for Felda settlers" - less than a year after they received RM15,000 in windfall payments and the Felda Global IPO made history.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The document is a naïve checklist of simplistic good intentions designed to avoid at all costs going into any telling detail.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The launch of this document was the only agenda item at Pakatan's convention in Shah Alam, which means there was no time to discuss issues such as the recent "Allah" dispute or for that matter, who should become Prime Minister if Pakatan Rakyat takes power.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But despite the contrived fanfare, no one should be taken in by this shoddy effort. If that's their recipe for good government then the voters should treat this manifesto as a timely warning.
