Con man on the prowl in Keningau

KENINGAU : Today May 10, Keningau Star received reports from two local women vegetables sellers at the weekly tamu being conned into giving money to a man who claimed he was arranging government aids for kampong folks.

These two women told us the smartly-dress man claimed to represent one “Farida” from Wanita UMNO and was to identify needy folks of cash money of RM1,500 and other aids from the government in the form of building materials for their houses.

The man then said he would need a lorry to deliver the goods and compel his victims to pay him RM200 for the lorry to deliver the goods to them.

He also gave the victims bank withdrawal forms and asked them to go to certain banks to withdraw their money on certain dates.

In the case of the two women, one of them had only RM140 and she gave that to the man believing his concocted “stories”.

The man took the money and promised to come again to collect the RM60 balance. That would be the last time the victims see him. We think this man had also conned others to part with their money. He could be going to other towns to con more people. We advise people to be extra careful and lodged a police reports where relevant.
