Dr Jeffrey rendezvous with SNAP President in Miri

By Razlan Danial
Miri, SARAWAK:
Former PKR vice president Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, and three of his most trusted lieutenants were apparently in Miri, Sarawak, Sunday (December 19) for a rendezvous with four top officials of SNAP including its president Edwin Dundang.

Those who saw them met at Megah Hotel in Miri said they explored possible joint partnership in political struggle for the future sake of Sabah and Sarawak. Also discussed was the just-unveiled United Borneo Front (UBF) led by Jeffrey.

Accompanying Jeffrey were Daniel John Jambun, Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari and Mozes Iking. The trio are under one-year suspension by PKR till next month for their involvement in the attempt tio register a PKR-breakaway Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) in late 2009.

With Edwin were SNAP Deputy President, Kebing Wan; its Secretary-General Edmund Stanley Jugol, and SNAP Chief Coordinator, Paul Kadang, who resigned as one of the national PKR deputy secretary-generals in September, 2010.

SNAP is officially a component member of Pakatan Rakyat (PR). On the other side, talks had been that Jeffrey, his lieutenants and others are accused set to quit PKR for its lukewarm and non-committal attitude towards demands made by Jefffey and most of PKR leaders in both Sabah and Sarawak chapters.

Jeffrey demands centred on greater autonomy for the two East Malaysian states, as agreed in 1963 when Malaysia was formed by the then Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore which eventually left or kicked out in 1965.

It is reliably learnt that the SNAP team fully supported Jeffrey initiative in setting up the UBF as a common platform to pursue the Borneo Agenda, and had proposed a joint committee be set up for further collaboration.

Leaders from both teams were dead tight-lipped when approached for comment but one said there would be more meetings between the two parties.

There had been talks of initiative to have Zaid-led KITA work with SNAP in Sarawak and a yet-to-be announced political party in Sabah, possibly led by the maverick Jeffrey, besides working with other groups like MCLM to eventually become "Third Force" or a third alternative to BN and PR.
