Sabah now has the highest number of UMNO members, surpassing Johore, claims Musa

KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah now has surpassed Johore in term of UMNO membership !

State UMNO liaison chief, Musa Aman, claimed Sabah now has 455,828 UMNO members, with about 30,000 new members enrolled this year alone.

"This we achieved through our endless effort via various programmes including the "Program Juara Rakyat" to further consolidate UMNO strength in Sabah," he disclosed after he chaired UMNO state liaison meeting at its headquarter here last night.

According to Musa, who is also Sabah Chief Minister, Sabah now has the highest UMNO members taking over from Johore which has about 438,000 members.

"I am calling on the state UMNO machineries to continue enlisting new voters as party members," said Musa lately had been seen trying to assert his position ahead of a  pre-empted reshuffle in UMNO liaisons accros the nation.

Musa, along with Malacca's Chief Minister, Ali Rustam, has been widely speculated to top Najib Razak's menu of reshuffle.

It is interesting how things develop in Sabah UMNO, as talks had been that another Sabahan leader Shafei Apdal who is currently heading UMNO in Kedah might be brought back to Sabah.

This prompted Musa's inner circle to feel the pressure and hence the "consolidating of position" arises.

Musa's second hand man in Sabah UMNO, Salleh Said, who was initially seen to be aligning to Shafei had since shifted "close friendship" to Musa.

Salleh-Shafei friendship initially was also bolstered by their common public affection of their Bajau-Sama communities. However, when Salleh went ahead to lead a Bajau-Sama cultural body called USBO, Shafei was nowhere to be seen in the line-up or enthusiastic about it.

Salleh, a political scientist who is currently doing his doctorate locally, however, had since been appointed by Musa as his Science Advisor, a post previously held by Tham Nyip Shen who became partyless after he quit SAPP.
Political pundits in the state now are spinning a lot of speculations on Musa's position and this has prompted some political theorists to churn out all kinds of stories including that Musa is on the way out to be appointed State Governor, taking over from Ahmad Shah Abdullah whose second term expires at the end of this year.
